The Drucker Institute partners with Cell-Ed to launch mobile upskilling platform
South Bend, Indiana, residents gain access to Cell-Ed courses and live coaches as part of lifelong learning system Bendable, with more cities to follow
Palo Alto, Calif., June 8, 2020 — The Drucker Institute, a social enterprise based at Claremont Graduate University, has handpicked Cell-Ed, a mobile-first learning company, to provide its upskilling courses and career coaches to South Bend, Indiana, residents as part of lifelong learning system Bendable.
The Drucker Institute plans to scale Bendable, which launched last week in South Bend, to another 10 to 15 cities over the next five years.
Bendable makes it easier for people to acquire a wide variety of new knowledge and skills, online, offline and in-person. Through Bendable, South Bend residents can take Cell-Ed courses that cover everything from English language, basic writing and math to work readiness over any mobile device. They can also talk and text with live, multilingual and career coaches and earn certificates. For those without internet access, Cell-Ed call-in version is also available.
Because Bendable was closely co-designed with residents and local employers over more than two years, the courses match what people want to learn and accomplish and what businesses need.
“As a lifelong learning system, Bendable is meant to be truly lifelong and universal, offering resources of interest to everyone across the community,” said Rick Wartzman, head of the Drucker Institute’s KH Moon Center for a Functioning Society.
“But at the same time, the system’s primary aim is to make highly relevant learning opportunities accessible to the most economically vulnerable. That’s why Cell-Ed is so important as a content provider. The specific training it offers, the format its courses come in, and the coaching and support that learners receive make Cell-Ed an incredibly valuable piece of the Bendable platform.”
“The Drucker Institute’s Bendable platform enables Cell-Ed to serve South Bend’s always-striving adults who, more than ever, are seeking to learn and upskill so they can get better jobs or feel more confident in their current roles,” said Jessica Rothenberg-Aalami, CEO and founder of Cell-Ed. “This is increasingly critical as low-wage workers are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, and we are grateful for the chance to work with them.”
“We are also excited to partner with the Drucker Institute because of its legacy of success in co-designing and delivering innovations that matter. At Cell-Ed, we cannot wait to help more people reach their professional and personal goals as Bendable grows city by city across the country.”
This Drucker Institute and Cell-Ed partnership comes less than a month after Cell-Ed announced its “1 Million Learner Challenge.”
With support from partners including the State of New York Office for New Americans, the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, the Challenge provides up to one million vulnerable adults nationwide with free access to Cell-Ed’s mobile skill-building courses.
