At Cell-Ed, we believe that learning should meet people where they are—literally. That’s why we’re proud to partner with the Workforce Development Board of Ventura County (WDBVC) and Equus Workforce Solutions to support Ventura County’s farmworker families, including youth ages 14 to 24, through innovative, mobile-first education and career services.
Together, we’re sowing seeds of opportunity that are transforming lives across generations.
🌱 Fields of Opportunity: A Community-Focused Initiative
Launched through federal funding and local leadership, Fields of Opportunity is a community-rooted initiative designed to expand career access and workforce training for farmworker families. Led by WDBVC and implemented by Equus, Inc., the program empowers both adults and youth with tools and resources to explore high-demand career paths.
What sets this program apart is its comprehensive approach. Participants receive wraparound support—from career coaching to digital literacy training—helping them navigate a better future for themselves and their families.
📱 How Cell-Ed Makes It Possible
Farmworker families face unique challenges that traditional education programs often can’t address: long work hours that stretch from dawn to dusk, limited internet access in rural areas, and language barriers. Cell-Ed bridges these gaps by offering:
- Mobile learning via cell phone (no Wi-Fi needed!)
- Bilingual courses in English, digital skills, and workforce readiness
- Self-paced, on-demand micro-lessons tailored to real-life goals
Through the Fields Of Opportunity initiative, Cell-Ed ensures that even the busiest learners can continue their education anytime, anywhere—via smartphone, basic phone, or WhatsApp.
👥 Empowering the Next Generation: Youth Ages 14–24
The partnership places a strong emphasis on engaging youth from farmworker families—many of whom are the first in their families to pursue education or career pathways outside of agriculture.
Through coordinated efforts, youth are:
- Connected with mentors and coaches through Equus
- Trained in essential digital and workplace skills via Cell-Ed
- Offered industry-aligned certifications and career navigation support
By combining mobile learning with personalized coaching, these young adults are gaining the tools and confidence they need to thrive in today’s workforce.
🤝 Partnership at Work: Strength Through Collaboration
This impactful collaboration includes:
Partner | Contribution |
WDBVC | Leadership, funding, and coordination of workforce programs |
Equus | One-on-one career coaching, job placement, and wraparound services |
Cell-Ed | Mobile-first training in English, digital skills, and job readiness |
Each organization brings unique strengths to the table—working together to break down barriers and open doors for Ventura County’s hardworking farmworker families.
🌟 Real Impact, Real Stories
As highlighted in the Fields of Opportunity podcast episode, participants are already seeing life-changing results: better jobs, stronger language skills, and a clearer path forward. Families are learning together, growing together, and building futures they once thought were out of reach.
At Cell-Ed, we’re honored to be part of this journey. Together with WDBVC and Equus, we’re making education and opportunity more accessible—one learner, one family, and one community at a time.
